crop rotation

Our farm has several different growing areas. They are all rotated to avoid having the same crops and pests in the same location usually for 3 years. Ben and Julie now have 60 acres to the north where we are transitioning those crops that do better in a sandier soil type. Several sections of the farm are left fallow as well.

The photo shows interplanting. When the cabbage transplants went into the ground, so did the green onion sets. They get harvested before the cabbages are full size. It’s an efficient way of using the ground twice and weeding once.
